FORT SCOTT SETS SIGHTS ON INDOOR TRACK OPENER IN HOUSTON

FORT SCOTT, Kan. - The Fort Scott Greyhounds Track and Field teams begin their 2024 indoor campaign this Friday, Jan. 12th at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational hosted by the University of Houston at Yeoman Fieldhouse.

The Hounds seek to improve upon where the 2023 season ended, having had 38 student-athletes qualify for outdoor nationals, where The Fort produced a total of 19 All-Americans. The 2023 indoor season also saw multiple Hounds show out on the national level, with 11 student-athletes earning All-American honors.

Fort Scott is guided by fifth-year head coach Philip Redrick, the recipient of the 2023 U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association NJCAA Central Region Coach of the Year Award.

On the men's side, the Hounds roster boasts a handful of nationally recognized returners, while also introducing some new faces in the Maroon and Grey. Mario Paul, an outdoor All-American in the 110m hurdles will represent The Fort in the 60m hurdles and 4x400 relay. He'll be backed in the 4x400 relay by sophomore transfer Nickory Richards, as well as true freshmen Durrell Collins and Charmar Smith. Fellow transfer sophomore Fabian Campbell, who posted a 1:49 mark in the 800m during last year's outdoor season, will lace it up for the 600Y event and will look to guide the men's B 4x400 relay crew consisting of three true freshmen in Josiah Taylor, Michael Nworu and Kansas product Isaiah Bates.

The Women's Team will see a number of newcomers and seasoned sophomore veterans suit up in the 713 to start the indoor season. Returning indoor All-American Icey Green is listed to compete in the long & triple jump events, as well as the 600Y. A number of ladies will toe the line in the 200m including a strong group of newcomers in Dayjoniqe Cato, Jazz Dilworth, Jakouria Jamerson, Kennedy Mosley, Emmanuella Squire and Ivana Odonkor. Another 2023 indoor and outdoor All-American in Chaniqua Tonge will join them in the 200m event, as well as the 60m. Squire, Odonkor, Mosley and Cato will make up The Fort's 4x400 A crew. Additionally, Tongue, Dilworth, Jamerson and Camryn Vasher will represent Fort Scott in the 4x400 as the B squad.

The first event Friday will begin at 11 a.m. (CST) with Green and true freshman Braela Sargent taking part in the women's triple & long jump. The Invite will also see the Hounds men and women compete in the 60m, 60m hurdles, 600Y, 400m, 200m and 4x400 relay. Live results can be found at https://live.flashresultstexas.com/meets/29098.
