FORT SCOTT, Kan. (Feb. 11, 2024) - Fort Scott (18-7, 6-3 KJCCC) men's basketball continued its win-streak on Saturday evening as the Greyhounds defeated KJCCC foe Hesston College (16-7, 5-4 KJCCC) in an 80-61 battle, tallying up a fourth consecutive win mid-way through February. The win also propels Fort Scott to an impressive 12-2 home record.

Derrick McDonald guided the Greyhounds with an impressive double-double performance, posting 12 points and ten rebounds on the stat sheet. McDonald pulled down three offensive rebounds while also dealing out two defensive blocks. This is McDonald's fourth double-double of the season.

The men in Maroon & White were seemingly in control throughout the game, taking a big 47-23 lead at the end of the first. About halfway through the second half of action, the Hound's lead got as high as 30 points. Fort Scott was ultimately guided by four double-digit scorers in BJ Francis (15 points), Bryce Journee (12 points), McDonald, and Andre Norris (11 points). Francis delivered a game-high five assists.

Davion Sargent joined McDonald in creating a dominating defensive wall against the Larks, nabbing a game-high three blocks. Additionally, Fort Scott collected 46 total rebounds compared to Hesston's 33.

The leading scorer for the Larks was also the game-high mark by Quez Wright at 23 points. The Hounds held the Larks to a 21-of-65 (32.3%) shooting performance and 3-for-25 (12.0%) from the three-point arch.

The fourth-straight tally in the win column is a league-high in the KJCCC as of Sunday morning.

On Wednesday, FSCC sweeps Labette in Parsons with a 77-58 victory. The Hounds are 5-0 against LCC in the past two seasons.

Bryce Journee led the Greyhound's success from deep, knocking down four to add to his team-high 17-point outing. Journee was six of seven in field goal attempts throughout the entire game. Fort Scott's willingness and aggressiveness to attack the basket from three resulted in the 19-point win.

Fort Scott produced four players with double-digits in the points department for the second game in a row. 13- and 12-point point showings by BJ Francis and Denymh Smith gave the Hounds the foundation they needed to tally another win. Smith was generous with the rock, even with the hot shooting hand, dealing out five assists throughout the evening. Davion Sargent's four-assist effort backed up Smith's as Fort Scott produced 15 assists.

The Hounds were also pugnacious off the glass, nabbing a total of 43 rebounds to the Cardinals 24. This helped lead to a 27-for-50 effort from the field for Fort Scott, far better than Labette's 18-of-50 performance. Christian Yeates was the only Cardinal that could finish at the basket consistently, reaching a game-high 25 points, and the only Labette scorer to gain double-digits in the total points column. Both teams turned the ball over 16 times. However, the Greyhounds took eight of them in steals compared to Labette's six.

Next Wednesday, the Greyhounds look to make five straight marks in the win column as they face Neosho County (13-11, 4-5 KJCCC). Neosho is fresh off a 79-74 win versus Allen County, which snapped the squad's three-game losing streak. If Fort Scott can keep the momentum going, it is still in the running for the regular season championship in the KJCCC.
