Two of the Greyhound Men's basketball players were named to the First Team KJCCC Division II All-Conference team. Sophomores John Montgomery and Tyler Zinn were instrumental in the Greyhound success this year, leading their team to a 20-12 season.
John Montgomery, a guard from Columbus, OH, averaged 14 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 assist per game after joining the team after Christmas break, while shooting 52 percent from the field. John served as a team captain this year.
Tyler Zinn, a guard from Marion, KS, averaged 19.6 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assist and 3 steal per game this year. Zinn also shot 47.8 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range and 82 percent from the free-throw line. Zinn was ranked 2nd in the conference and the region, and 30th in the nation in scoring. His field goal percentage has him ranked 7th in the conference and 9th in the region. Zinn also was 2nd in the conference and 4th in the region in 3 point percentage. His free throw percentage had him 4th and 5th in the conference and region respectfully.
Zinn also finishes his career among the all-time scoring leaders, having scored 1067 points in his two year career, which ranks him third on all-time scoring. Zinn is also ranked 11th in rebounds with 220 rebounds and 5th in assist with 190 assists.
"It is truly an honor to be able to coach these two young men and to have watched them grow on and off the court during our historic year. John was a matchup nightmare every night we played for the opposing teams and was a catalyst for our defense and fast break nightly. Tyler was the focal point nightly defensively for most team trying to figure out how to stop him or at least slow him down, it wasn't easy but he was always involved in the play one way or another. I am selfish in that I wish that they didn't have to graduate and move on to greater things but the sky is the limit for these two young men and I will miss not only coaching them but also watching them grow daily, they will both go on to achieve great things on and off the court. I want to personally thank them and their families for trusting our staff, college and community to help them grow and achieve their dreams and goals," stated Head Coach Michael Cook.
