Ben Souza is entering his second year as Head Esports Coach, also marking the second year of Esports at Fort Scott Community College. Souza brings years of competitive gaming experience into the esports 'Battle Lab' on campus, working closely with students to improve both individual and team-based skills.
Souza's approach is that 'esports is more than just gaming.' The strategy is to push students to become better communicators and leaders, skills that not only guarantee success in competitive gaming, but also in academics and life. Souza also trains students in digital media and content creation in efforts to equip the players with the tools needed to promote themselves on Twitch and YouTube at a professional level. Souza will coach the following games for the NJCAAE Varsity 2020-21 season:
- Overwatch
- Super Smash Bros Ultimate
- Valorant
- CS:GO
- Madden 21
Souza helped guide the FSCC Overwatch team to a top-50 placement in the Varsity Tespa Swiss Series in 2019-20, and guided three top-10 finishes in Super Smash Bros Singles for the NJCAAE Varsity Series in Fall 2019.
