Hounds Open The Season With a W

The Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds football team opened the 2019 season with a 20-16 win against the #16th ranked Highland Community College Scotties on Saturday night.  The Greyhounds were victorious behind a revamped defense that held the Scotties without an offensive touchdown all game.

Last season's matchup of the two teams saw the Greyhounds leave Highland with an overtime defeat, but it was Coach Kale Pick's team that was able to leave the field with a victory in the rematch.  The Greyhound offense was led by quarterback Rayvon Bartlett who went 20/29 for 133 yards and 1 touchdown.  Adding to his passing numbers, Bartlett accumulated 56 yards on the ground and added another touchdown.  Bartlett was calm and composed all game, and came up with numerous plays in the fourth quarter to ensure victory.

Sophomore Jon Jiles hauled in 8 catches for 74 yards, including a beautiful diving catch for a touchdown.  On the ground the Hounds were led by sophomore running back John Oliver, who carried 20 times for 59 yards.

No part of the Hounds game was a big as the performance of their defensive line, who came up with stop after stop against a great Highland offensive line.  Led by Malik Robinson, Marquis Williams, Khalil Gary, and Jaquan Green, the Hounds held the Scotties to 248 total yards, only 37 of which came on the ground, and totaled 6 sacks on the night.  Sophomore DB Dennis Barnes finished the Scotties final attempt with a FSCC interception.

The Hounds will hope to continue their dominance as they travel to Coffeyville to face the Red Ravens.  Last week, Coffeyville dropped their opening game 36-14 against the #2 ranked Iowa Western Reivers.  All FSCC football games can be watched on the Fort Scott TV live stream at:  http://www.citylinktv.com/channel/fort-scott-tv/
