FORT SCOTT, Kan. (Feb. 20, 2024) - The Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds won the series against Southwestern Iowa Community College over the weekend, defeating them in three of the four games. The Greyhounds played the four-game series in Fort Scott, with two games being played on Friday and the next two on Saturday, Feb. 19th. This puts their overall record at 11-2, which is a three-game increase from last year when FSCC started 8-5 through their first 13 games.

FSCC outscored the Spartans 18-16; the Hounds lost game one 0-3.

During game two, FSCC had two-hit games from Ty Galusky and Owen Rush. Next, third-baseman Luke Stout had a two-homerun that solidified the win to tie the series one to one. Freshman pitcher Ayden came in the fifth inning to close the last two innings of the game to give him his first win of the season. #28 struck out four of his six batters on the mound.

On the second day, FSCC won another one-run game for game three as they won their 10th game of the season, 7-6. The Hounds were down 4-5 in the top of the third but did not look back after that. They outscored the Spartans 3-1 to finish the game. DH, Josh Polubinski led the way with three RBIs from a two-hit game, followed by Jaret Nelson bringing in two runs as well from going one of the two during the game. Chandler Fowler was electric on the mound, getting his first win of the season, not allowing a run during the ten batters faced while striking out three.

To end the series, the Greyhounds were down 0-2 but scored five runs, with two coming from the fourth inning and three in the bottom of the sixth to give them the victory. Mike Polubinski was perfect in the batter's box, going three for three with two RBIs. Maka Shigematsu had a two-run triple, while Josh Pulubinski had the other RBI from a double. On the mound, the pitchers had a collective effort as Conner Burch, Tyler Carnes, Andre Ryan (W; 1-0), and Lucas Rodenberg did not allow a run as each of them pitched at least one inning.

Fort Scott will face Iowa Lakes Community College during a five-day break before the three-game series. This series will have two games on Friday, Mar. 1st at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, with the third game on Saturday, Mar. 2nd at noon. FSCC swept ILCC last year, winning all four games and outscoring Iowa Lakes 30-15.

The Greyhounds are currently top 25 in the country in the following categories: shutouts with three (8th), home runs with 19 (11th), sacrifice hits with 7 (16th), and slugging percentage .533 (24th).
