Baseball Wins Seventh in a Row

The Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds won five games this week, winning a two-game series against Ottawa University on Monday and then a three-game series against Ellsworth Community College on Saturday/Sunday.

FSCC outscored the Braves 15-1; the Hounds were led by sophomores Joey Little and Shane Noel, both hitting two-run home runs in game one. Left-handed pitcher, Reese Kortum was dominant on the mount in five innings, not allowing a run in his 19 batters faced.

During game two, FSCC had two-hit games from Ayden Slott and Luke Stout, who contributed two runs each. Next, first baseman, Jaret Nelson had a homerun from one of his two hits. Not only were the bats efficient, but pitcher Cannon Frazier threw a no-hitter in his five innings of work while striking out five batters.

Next, the red-hot FSCC Baseball team had a five-day break before sweeping the Panthers from Ellsworth, Iowa, in a three-game series.

During game one, FSCC's second-baseman hit once again a ball that was unrecoverable for his second home run of the season. He also had two more hits for four RBIs during their 7-4 victory. Freshman, Mike Polubinski contributed to the other three runs. On the mound, Gavin Brummund won his second game of the year, only allowing one hit and run in his six innings of work.

In game two, the Hounds had six hits from Ty Galusky, Joey Little (2), Tresten Shigematsu, Ayden Slott, and Luke Stout in the 6-3 win. Right-handed pitcher Gavin Shearer wins his second game of the year, allowing one hit in three innings and zero earned runs.

To end the series, the Hounds were electric on the mound, not allowing a run from pitchers; JT Adams, Isaak Crittenden, and Lucas Rodenburg. Third-baseman, Luke Stout had two hits with one walk, one run, and one RBI. Keller Rivers had two RBIs from his one hit, while Ty Galusky had an RBI double during the 5-0 victory.

Coach John Hill states, "It was a well-played series on both sides of the field. Ellsworth is a good team that's well-coached.
We played really well all around in each aspect: dugout energy, pitching, defense, hitting, baserunning. It was a good step forward and we will see if we can continue forward movement this upcoming weekend with our next series."
