Hounds Season Ends in Garden City

FSCC Baseball traveled to Garden City to take on the Garden City Community College in a best 2 of 3 playoff series this past weekend. Game 1 saw Ryan McCollough make the start for for the Hounds. He went 5.2 innings and allowed 6 runs on 12 hits in tough windy conditions. "It was a difficult day to pitch, he competed like he always does and kept us in the ball game," Head Coach John Hill III said. The Greyhound offense racked up 5 extra base hits including home runs from Jacob Biller, Danny Crews and Nick Banman. Unfortunately the Hounds could not hold on as they fell on a walk off base hit 10-9.

The game one loss set up an elimination situation for the Hounds. The Greyhound offense again was on point with 6 extra base hits. Nick Banman had 2 homeruns and Andrew Tanous also homered. Even with the offensive output, the Hounds still found themselves trailing by 2 going into their last at bat. Danny Crews led off with a single followed by a Jacob Biiler hit by pitch. Jedd Andrade bunted to move the runner to second and third which was then followed by a clutch 2 RBI double by Andrew Tanous. Gabe Franklin dropped down a bunt for basehit which scored Tanous and gave the Hounds the lead heading into the bottom half of the 9th. Nick Banman closed the door for his 6th save of the season. "Our guys were relentless, there was no quit, they stayed in the moment and got the job done," Hill said.

The win set up an elimination game for both teams Sunday afternoon. Justin O'Laughlin started for the Hounds and went 5.2 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 4. The Greyhound offense had some tough luck, hitting multiple balls hard with little to show for it. Gabe Franklin, Nick Banman, and Mackay Williams each had doubles for the Hounds. Taylor Fajardo also homered in the 9th in the Greyhounds 8-4 defeat.

"I have the upmost respect for the resiliency our guys showed this season. We have been trying since February for our guys to play with a higher amount of energy and urgency, and this weekend they did that. Garden City is a really good team, and we battled to the end with them. I am so proud of our sophomores and their leadership this season. Even though the baseball season has ended, we still have the most important goal to achieve for the program, a team GPA national championship." Hill said.

Greyhound Baseball finishes the season 37-21. The program would like to thank all of the Hound family from near and far for the tremendous support all season long.
