FSCC Baseball Sweeps Highland

FSCC Baseball took on Highland Community College in a four game conference series last weekend taking all four games. Game one featured a close game with FSCC coming out on top 5-3. Nick Sloan made his second start of the season allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 5. Boby Johnson finished the game allowing 1 run and striking out 4 in 2.2 innings. Harrison Whitworth recorded 2 RBI's in the Greyhound win.

Game 2 featured a dominant pitching performance from Ryan McCollough in an 11-1 FSCC win. He went the distance allowing just the one run on 4 hits and striking out 9. Every Greyhound position player reached base at least once, and a Mackay Williams 2 RBI single capped a 7 run 7th inning and the game.

The series shifted to Highland on Saturday with the Greyhounds dominating the day. Game one saw the Hounds beat the Scotties 12-1 behind homeruns from Gabe Franklin, Nick Banman, and Jedd Andrade. Miles Wagner went the distance on the mound for FSCC allowing 1 run on 8 hits and striking out 5.

The final game of the series saw the Hounds again dominate the Scotties 18-4. On the day, FSCC failed to score in only 4 of the 14 innings played. Danny Crews, Andrew Tanous, Nick Banman, and Darren Hasch each homered for the FSCC. Tanous finished the game 5-5 with the homerun and 4 singles. Matt Hicks received the win for FSCC allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3. Head Coach John Hill III shared his thoughts on the series:

"It's always a good feeling to sweep a series, but in the larger picture, we improved as a team. Our team really brought the energy it needed to this weekend, and we are expecting that to carry over into next week's series."

FSCC will match up against Allen County in a conference series beginning Thursday in Fort Scott at 1:00. Saturday the series will shift to Iola also beginning at 1:00. FSCC enters the series with a record of 26-8 and 13-7 in conference. Allen as of today is 18-14 and also 13-7 in conference.
