FSCC Baseball Splits Weekend Series

FSCC Baseball Splits Weekend Series

FSCC Baseball took on the Labette Cardinals last Thursday and Saturday. The first doubleheader was played in Fort Scott on a cold blustery day. Game one featured a back and forth affair that saw the game tied after 6 innings. Labette scored 4 runs in the top half of the seventh to win the game 8-5. Nick Sloan made his first start of the year allowing 4 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings. Cade Williams took the loss for the Hounds. Danny Crews homered for FSCC in the loss.

Game 2 featured a dominating performance by FSCC on both sides of the ball. Ryan McCollough went the distance on the mound allowing just 2 runs and striking out 8. Jacob Biller homered twice, Gabe Franklin and Andrew Tanous each added homeruns for FSCC as well.

The series shifted to Parsons, Kansas for the second doubleheader of the series. Game one of the day saw the Hounds get behind early due to a Labette 7 run 3rd inning. But the Hounds answered with homeruns from Jacob Biller, and Nick Banman. However, it was not enough as FSCC fell 10-8. Miles Wagner took the loss for the Hounds going just 2.2 innings allowing 7 runs on 7 hits.

The final game of the series was a roller coaster. It saw the two teams exchange leads 6 times with Hounds eventually coming out on top 11-10. Andrew Tanous went 4-5 in the affair and Jedd Andrade chipped in 2 hits including a key game tying double in the 9th innings. Mackay Williams also homered for FSCC. Matt Hicks started for the Greyhounds going 4.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits. Nick Banman came into finish the game gaining the win in the process. He went 2.1 innings allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3. Head Coach John Hill III hared his thoughts on the series:

"This was a tough series; Labette is a good ball club who really competes. I am proud of our guys for the way they responded to two tough game ones. Both times we lost the first game and came out on top in the second. They key moving forward is to come out ready to play so we don't have to respond, but rather just maintain success. I think our guys are ready to get after it again this weekend."

FSCC will host Highland Community College in a conference doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1:00. The Hounds will then travel to Highland this Saturday also beginning at 1:00. FSCC enters the series with a record of 21-8 and a conference record of 9-7 while Highland comes in 6-25 and 2-14 in conference.
