Volleyball Finishes Regular Season 30-8

Wednesday marked a record setting night for the Greyhound Volleyball Team.  They took on conference opponents Allen County on sophomore night.  The Greyhounds won the contest in 3 sets, 25-18, 25-21, 25-15.  The win marked the Greyhound's 30th win on the season, setting a school record for wins in a season.

The Greyhounds were led by sophomores Molly Hothan (9 kills, 4 blocks), Shelbey Baker (8 kills, 1 block), Kortney Blaufuss (37 assists, 14 digs) and Terina Harris (8 digs).

Recognition of the sophomores followed the match.  Here are some highlights of the sophomore class:

Shelbey Baker was voted by her teammates as a 2014 team captain.  She was named the MVP of the FS Tourney and to the All-Tournament Team in Vernon, TX.  This season, Shelbey has put up over 274 kills, 445 digs and 48 blocks; this puts Shelbey 6th all-time in Fort Scott VB history for Digs in a season and 8th all time for kills in a season.  Over her two year playing career at FSCC, Shelbey has tallied 491 kills, 741 digs and 68 blocks; putting Shelbey 3rd all-time in Fort Scott VB history for Digs in a career and 3rd all time for Kills in a career.   

Molly Hothan was named the MVP of the Allen County Tournament and Week 5 – KJCCC Player of the Week.  This season, Molly has totaled 306 kills with a .322 hitting percentage and 120 blocks.  This moves Molly to 1st in Fort Scott VB History in Blocks in a season, 3rd all-time for blocks in a career, 7th all-time in kills in a season, and 9th all-time in kills in a career.  

Terina Harris is a two year captain for the Greyhounds, named to the KJCCC Academic All-Conference Team and she is on track to be an Academic All-American.  Terina was named to the All-Tournament Team at the FS Tourney and the Allen County Tournament.  She was a four time KJCCC Defensive Player of the Week this year, in weeks 2, 3, 5, & 7.  In her two years of playing for the Greyhounds, Terina recorded 445 digs her freshman year and 626 digs her sophomore year, totaling 1071 digs in her career.  This puts Terina as the all-time leader in Fort Scott VB history for Digs in a season and #1 in Digs for a career.

Kortney Blaufuss is a two year captain for the Greyhounds, named to the KJCCC Academic All-Conference Team, Phi Theta Kappa, and will be an Academic All-American.  Kortney was named to the All-Tournament Team at Neosho and Vernon, TX.  She was named Week 9 – KJCCC Player of the Week.  This season, Kortney has put up 1383 assists and 298 digs, which puts her #1 All-time in Fort Scott VB history in Assists in a season.  In her career, she has totaled 2592 assists and 527 digs – this puts Kortney as #1 in Fort Scott VB history for Assists in a career.

Head Coach Lindsay Hill had these comments, "It has been an absolute pleasure coaching these young ladies.  They all have been great leaders for our underclassman and I am excited to see them continue to grow as individuals.  This year has been exciting, memorable and record setting."
