Tale of Two Halves

After playing well the night before and having everyone play in the game and shoot the ball fairly well, Greyhounds Head Coach Michael Cook knew the Greyhounds would have a tough opponent in Neosho County who lost the night before to Highland Community College in the Gladbach classic. Neosho came out and shot the ball at a blistering 67 percent from the field and a 50 percent from the three point line. While the Greyhounds shot a woeful 28 percent from the field and 18 percent from the three point, causing them to dig a hole of being down twenty six points at half time with a score of 52-26.

"I think that we came out and thought that Neosho would not have any energy, since we were playing at home maybe our guys thought that the crowd would carry us and it was reversed, Neosho had the energy and we were flat and we let our offense dictate our defense," stated Head coach Michael Cook.

The second half was a different Greyhounds team, more energy and pushing the ball and making shots and cutting the lead into a seven point deficit with 3 minutes to go in the game. The Greyhounds made it interesting and fought til the final buzzer but could not get over the hump.  They lost the game with a score of 86-80. The Greyhounds held Neosho to 34 points the second half while scoring 54 points themselves, but a few costly turnovers and blown defensive assignments hurt the Greyhounds in the final minutes.

"We dug ourselves into a hole that was hard to get out of, our shooting and execution in the first half was awful. I thought that we played hero ball and played as individuals the first half. I like that we did not quit and fought back to make a game out of it but we have to play for forty minutes and play together and we will be better doing that. I think that we have a lot of things going right and we are trending to a good team, just have to stay focused and realize that it is a marathon not a sprint" stated Head Coach Michael Cook.
