Hounds Tested On First Weekend
Head Men's basketball coach Michael Cook knew that his team would be put through a hard fought battle the first weekend of the season when taking on Coffeyville which came into the season as the number four ranked team in the nation and a tough minded Cowley Community College team.

In the first contest against Coffeyville, the Hounds their own and found themselves up at the media timeout by five points. After the media timeout, Coffeyville made adjustments and tied the game up and turned up defensive pressure and aggressiveness and took the lead and held the Hounds to a low of 42 points and to their 75. "Coffeyville is very athletic and we didn't score form the three point line at all and shot poorly from the free throw line also, you cannot beat a team like Coffeyville doing that, I thought our games plan worked for about ten minutes and then it all fell apart. However, our team will grow and get better from games like this" stated Head Coach Michael Cook.

The next night, the Hounds took on a tough defensive minded Cowley Tigers team, both teams came into the contest and played aggressive and the game went back and forth the first 10 minutes with 5 lead changes. The Hounds found themselves down by ten at half 35—25. The Hounds fought hard the entire game and closed the gap to five points in the second half but could not close the game strong. Shooting woes continue for the Hounds shooting only 20% from the three point line and 58 % from the free throw line, losing to Cowley with the score of 76-62. " We cannot win games shooting those percentages nightly no matter how great of a defense effort we put in, we can chalk it up to early games and continue to work to get better and grow as a team" stated Head Coach Michael Cook
