In rain drenched week, Fort Scott Community College, and Allen Community College were able to get their conference matchup in last Friday and Saturday.
Rain forced the series to move to Fort Scott Friday. The first game was a back-and-forth affair in the early going. Fort Scott scored first on back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first. Will Baker led off with a single to right then scored on Danny Crews' 2-out homer. Sean Moore followed up with a solo shot. Quinn Waterbury was also 3-3 with a homerun and drove in 4 runs. Nick Sloan started for the Hounds and allowed just 3 earned runs in 5 innings. And Kobie Schmitt recorded his 10th save of the year in the win.
Game 2 saw a dominating performance from FSCC with the Hounds winning 18-0. Justin O'Laughlin threw a complete game striking out nine. Offensively the Hounds saw Andrew Morrow hit 2 homeruns, with homeruns from Danny Crews and Brandon Krennrich. Ben McConnell, Sean Moore, and Mackay Williams also added multi-hit games for FSCC.
A quick turnaround due to forecasted rain forced the series to resume in Iola Saturday afternoon. Boby Johnson started on the Mound for the Hounds and went 5 innings allowing 4 runs and striking out 6. Nathan Miller took the loss in the 5-4 affair allowing a walk-off base hit in the 7th inning. Danny Crews was 3-4 in the loss driving in 2 runs.
The final game of the series saw the Hounds fall behind early 5-1. But a 4 run 5th and a 2 run 7th propelled the Hounds to victory 9-5. Avery Boehm got the win on the mound in relief going 2 innings and striking out 3. Kobie Schmitt earned his 11th save for FSCC. Quinn Waterbury homered for the Hounds, while Baker, McConnell, Crews and Moore added multi-hit games in the win. Head Coach John Hill III shared his thoughts on the weekend:
"It is always important to win conference series. I am proud of our team for their response following the loss in the 3rd game. We as always have some adjustments to make this week in practice. We are in a good spot as a team, but by no means are we satisfied with our start. There is no time for satisfaction, and we will continue to work moving forward."
FSCC will take on Neosho County this week for a series currently scheduled for Thursday in Fort Scott, and Saturday in Chanute. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 1:00.
