FSCC Baseball sophomores traveled to Wichita State University September 17th for the annual KJCCC Baseball sophomore showcase. 

The day began with a pro style workout consisting of: bullpens, 60 yard dash times, defensive evaluations, and batting practice. Nick Sloan, Keller Agre, Boby Johnson, Kevin Land, and Avery Boehm each threw bullpens for the over one hundred coaches and scouts from four year universities in attendence. Brandon Krennrich, Danny Crews, Will Baker, Mitch Sloan, Mackay Williams, and Harrison Whitworth each participated in the position player aspects of the showcase portion. Head Coach John Hill III was pleased with the results and shared his thoughts: 

"Our Sophomores did an excellent job representing our program today in the workout. The bullpen guys really showed their stuff while staying within themselves and not trying to do too much. Position players were the same, and we had some really impressive swings in batting practice. With so many coaches in attendance it is easy for a player to get outside of their playing style and try to do too much. But our guys stayed in the moment and did fantastic."

Following the showcase workout was the KJCCC Eastern Division All Star Game. FSCC was represented by: Catcher Brandon Krennrich, shortstop Danny Crews, outfielder Will Baker, outfielder Mitch Sloan, outfielder Mackay Williams, and pitcher Justin O'Laughlin. Mackay Williamsstood out in the game going 2-2 with a double, triple, and a walk. Will Baker had two hits and drove in a run, and Mitch Sloan also had a hit. Defensively Danny Crews made some standout defensive plays, and Brandon Krennrich also threw out the lone runner who tried to run on him. Justin O'laughlin waited the longest to showcase his skills on the mound, throwing the 15th and 16th innings in the game, and it was worth the wait for those in attendance. O'Laughlin struck out 5 and allowed just 1 hit in his 2 innings of work. Coach Hill shared his thoughts on the day as a whole:

"Our sophomores were first class today as they always are. They not only showcased their on field talents, but also showcased the incredible character that exemplifies the values of this program. They were professional, and in my conversations with 4 year coaches, they demonstrated the intangible qualities that coaches at the next level are looking for. I am so proud of these guys, and how they carry on the core values that the coaches preach to them on a daily basis."

The Hounds are back in action this Friday at Johnson County 3&2 against Kansas City Kansas Community College, and Saturday against Hutchinson and Allen County. Friday game begins at 2:30 and Saturdays games begin at 8:30 and 10:45 AM.
