Greyhounds Open With A Sweep

FSCC baseball opened the season with a 4 game sweep of Cloud County Monday and Tuesday. Game one featured sophomore Ryan McCollough starting on the mound and going five strong innings in the 5-4 win. He walked one and struck out 4 to earn his first victory of the season. Sophomore Andrew Tanous tripled in the 1st and later tacked on two RBI's for the Greyhounds.

Game 2 saw Justin O'Laughlin make his college debut on the mound. O'Laughlin started out hot in the first 3 innings but ran into some trouble in the 4th allowing 3 runs. However the Greyhound offense rallied in the bottom half of the last inning, behind an Andrew Tanous 2 run double and a Nick Banman sacrifice fly to finish the game 5-4. Freshman Avery Boehm got his first collegiate win out of the bullpen. He allowed 1 run in 3 innings.

Day two featured some veteran leadership on the mound. Game 3 saw redshirt sophomore Miles Wagner make his first start of the season. Wagner went 6 innings allowing 3 runs and striking out 3. Andrew Tanous came to the rescue again with a 2 run double to give the Greyhounds the lead in the 6th inning. Nick Banman came into to close out the 4-3 win for his 2nd save of the season.

Game 4 saw the Hounds cruise to victory behind multi-hit games from freshman Danny Crews and sophomore Jacob Biller. Sophomore Malik Sams also had a big RBI double to help tack onto the lead. Redshirt sophomore Matt Hicks started the game for the Greyhounds. He went 5 innings allowing no runs and striking out 3. Freshman Bobby Johnson made his college debut striking out the side in the Hounds 6-1 win.

Head Coach John Hill III shared his thoughts in the opening weekend sweep:

"I am happy with the way our season has started. However, this is just a starting point for this group. There are things we did really well, but there are things that we need to adjust moving forward against North Central Missouri. I am excited to see what this group does in their second series this weekend.

Greyhound baseball will host North Central Missouri College this Saturday and Sunday at The LaRoche Complex in Fort Scott. Game time Saturday is set for 1:00, and Sunday's affair will begin at noon.
